Numosapienism:
a new human way of being human
Biological evolution has progressed since the creation of the earliest forms of life. We regard ourselves as the pinnacle of that evolutionary process. According to Judo-Christian beliefs, we are made in the likeness of God. We are to be fruitful and multiply, and have dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the cattle, the Earth and every living thing.
What have we made of our opportunity to have dominion over the Earth? If the truth be told, we've made a mess of things. We now face a crisis caused by over-consumption as a consequence of over-population by us. There are too many of us, using up far too much of the Earth's resources, for long-term sustainability. We have to do something to change our ways as a matter of urgency. If not, the prognosis for our survival is bleak.
Religious theory also tells us to love one another as equals. Yet inequality amongst humans is far more common than equality. Billions live in poverty; billions are uneducated; persecution and abuse lead to unmitigated refugee crises; famine, dirty water and preventable disease condemn hundreds of millions to premature deaths every year. In short, the rich get richer, the poor get poorer, and potential natural disasters threaten all of us.
Our problems are global. Solving them requires a united response by everyone across the world. If we can't come together as one species all acting for the common good, we have no hope of solving our problems. Yet, barriers to us uniting as one are created by institutionalised religion, nationalism and tribalism.
Numosapienism is a new movement that aims to bring down these barriers to unification, by presenting a new understanding of what it means to be human.
Thus far, we have evolved biologically and physiologically. The goal now is for us to evolve to a higher level of consciousness, to evolve spiritually to become 'we-oriented', as opposed to 'me-oriented' people. The aim, if we are to save ourselves from our problems, is attain a higher community conscience, to evolve psychologically to become Numo sapiens - new human beings capable of shedding old conventions of religion, nationality, tribalism, race, sexuality and gender.
The old adage, 'united we stand, divided we fall', has never been truer or more appropriate than it is today.
